There are hundreds of programs searching for funding in Nevada.
When I was nominated to sit on the board for (NDOR) Nevada Department of Outdoor Recreation I was overcome with gratitude. I have spent my life mentoring and trying to find ways to get the youth outdoors more often. So I said YES. Applied and ultimately chosen. This official state seat as an advisor appointed by the Governor sounded amazing, but I had no clue what I would be doing but the words fit every ounce of my soul and figured It would all work out.
Well, it did.
My first task as an advisor along with the board members was to read through 35 grant applications and figure out who would get funding. I was excited. About three quarters of the way through I had melted into tears of joy many times in pure fascination of how many amazing humans were building, organizing, creating and or operating outdoor programs throughout the state. Everyone of them pouring their time, hearts and souls into our youth. I found my people. Finally.!
Then reality set it.
There were $1,225,777 in grant funding request
Our leadership said we need to grade these and choose who the $250,000 will go to.
My response was, Why cant we just fund them all, clearly every bit of this is needed.
Well, only so many grant dollars available. Tears again.
So we are here.
I do not accept in a world with so many resources, so many schemes, so many people that wish they could help but do not know how that we cannot continue to fund any and all programs that get our youth outdoors to experience nature. We will fundraise, we will collaborate and we will donate until everyone doing good in our communities receives the help they seek.
The Taylor Fund will continue to create funding mechanisms for outdoor programs.
You can donate, you can buy mentor water, you can wear mentor apparel or you can sponsor a classroom. There is something to fit your generosity.
By December 31st 2024 we will raise the 1 million needed to fund every ask.
That is what community does.
